How does HATHAWAY ensure sustainable sourcing?
All our fabrics are sourced from suppliers who meet strict environmental and social standards, including GOTS and ICEA certifications for organic fibers. This ensures that the silk and wool used in our scarves is produced ethically, with care for both people and the planet. What makes your scarves slow fashion?
HATHAWAY scarves are designed to last. By creating made-to-order pieces in small production runs, we reduce overproduction and avoid fast-fashion waste. Seasonless designs encourage mindful purchasing, so each scarf can be cherished for years rather than discarded after a season.Do you use innovative or eco-friendly materials?
Yes! In addition to certified organic silk and wool, we are introducing innovative, low-impact textiles such as peace silk (cruelty-free), SeaCell (bio-based fabric), and vegan Modal. These materials allow us to expand sustainable options while maintaining luxury and quality. How do you minimize environmental impact in production and shipping?
We consolidate fabric swatches, run pre-order campaigns, and hand-deliver local orders to reduce carbon emissions. Packaging is designed for reuse and recycling: thin scarf boxes can be reused, and organic scarf bags reduce waste.Do your artisans and collaborators work ethically?
Absolutely. We partner with skilled artisans and collaborators who receive fair pay and work reasonable hours. Freelancers, mothers, and female founders are supported with mentorship and flexible schedules, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and empowering working environment. Are your dyes and printing processes eco-friendly?
Yes. All printing uses azo-free reactive and disperse dyes, handled in environmentally conscious facilities. This ensures no harmful chemicals enter the water or environment, keeping both our scarves and our planet safe. Can customers learn about the people behind their scarves?
Yes. Each scarf represents a collaboration of many hands, from artisans in Italy and local seamstresses to the HATHAWAY team. We celebrate these stories through our blog, social media, and upcoming campaigns that highlight the craftsmanship behind every piece.Do you encourage customers to make sustainable choices?
Yes! We provide guidance on scarf care, slow fashion practices, and mindful purchasing. By choosing made-to-order, long-lasting pieces, customers help reduce waste and support responsible, ethical production.escription -
